Room rates can change a lot from one night to the next. Try shifting your check-in by a day or two, or check the whole week — the same room is often noticeably cheaper mid-week or off-season.

Non-refundable rates are cheaper, but flexible ones protect you if plans change. Look for "free cancellation until…" and note the exact date and time zone.

Focus on reviews from the last few months and on what matters to you — cleanliness, noise, Wi-Fi, breakfast. A single bad review is noise; the same complaint repeated is a pattern.

A cheaper hotel far from the centre can cost more once you add taxis and time. Check the distance to public transport and the places you actually plan to visit.

City taxes, resort fees, parking and breakfast can add up. Compare the total price for your stay, not the nightly headline rate.

Many booking platforms show lower "member" or app-only rates once you are signed in. It is free and takes a minute — worth checking before you book.
